Better Gas Mileage: Save Gas And Money

by Stephan Grindley

As gas prices rise and the economy is slowing we as consumers need to get better gas mileage. There are several ways to better your chances of getting better fuel efficiency and saving money that we so desperately could use these days.

The first step in getting better gas mileage is to make sure to have regular maintenance done on the car. If the car does not run efficiently, it uses more gas when it runs. Getting a regular tune up and oil change will help the car run at its very best.

Another key to better gas mileage is to think about the way you're driving. If you're a heavy driver, that is one who typically hits the gas and the breaks hard, consider laying off of the gas and breaks and little and allowing your car to coast. This will cut down on the amount of gas you use.

The speed you drive your car can effect how much gas you use. All cars are different, but, if you drive 60 or above your car will use a lot more gas. You should try to drive the speed limit and you will save some money.

Heavy objects can weigh down your car and cause it to use more gas. If you have heavy things in your car that don't need to be there, consider taking them out. Of course you will need to have your spare tire and other heavy items in your car, but do look to see if there are things you don't need.

Ways to save on gas and drive time would be to get with people in your neighborhood and work to carpool. Allowing your children to ride the bus or take turns with other parents dropping kids to school. Organizing these great ideas will be well worth it.

Doing your errands in one general area is also a good idea. If you park your car in a central location, then walk to the various places you need to visit, you will save on gasoline. Not only will you save some money, but it is also a great way to take in the outdoors and a little physical activity.
